The International Gaming Awards (IGA) are among the most prestigious honors conferred on members of the land casino and online gambling industry. The awards for 2012 were initiated by IGA in early September and nominations invited from the industry. The response was so great that IGA had to extend the last date for receiving the nominations. Now the nominations have closed and the different panels of judges will start their work.

The nominations for some of the categories in online gambling make for interesting reading. The iGaming Software Supplier has over 25 nominations. The familiar names like Microgaming, Playtech, CTXM, Net Entertainment and Chartwell are included along with a host of unfamiliar names. Though Playtech won the award last year, Microgaming will be a strong contender this year because its QuickFire platform is doing wonders to extend its reach.

All the big European players are represented in the Online Casino Operator Category. 888 Casino, Bet365, Bodog,, Ladbrokes, William Hill and Victor Chandler have sent in their nominations. But the strong contender for the Online Casino Operator of the Year is Virgin Casino. It has logged a prolific addition of new games from a number of software suppliers and has offered excellent promotions throughout the year.

The usual competition exists in the Payments Solutions Provider Company category. Neteller is represented as Optimal Payment Solutions, the new name for its parent company. Similarly Moneybookers is represented as Skrill. The other popular names are Entropay and Paysafecard. Ukash is conspicuous by its absence. Two other categories of interest to the online gambling industry will be Socially Responsible Online Operator and Online Slots Operator. Nominations for the Socially Responsible Online Operator include 888 Casino,, Betfair, William Hill Online and Paddy Power. Nominations for the Online Slots Operator include 32Red Casino, 888 Casino,, and William Hill. One would have liked to see Virgin Casino in this list as well.

Just before the nominations closed, IGA announced that for the 2012 awards The GREaT Foundation has been appointed as a charitable beneficiary of the awards event, which takes place in London's Sheraton Park Lane Hotel on the 23rd January.
The GREaT Foundation is a United Kingdom based organization that supports socially responsible gambling research, education and treatment. By selecting GREaT as the beneficiary IGA is signaling the online gambling industry's commitment to responsible gambling. Through the IGA 2012, The GREaT Foundation will hope to reach out to land based and online gaming organizations attending the event in a bid to raise additional funds and awareness of its work. The event is being sponsored by some of the biggest names in gambling including Playtech and Bally Technologies and is being supported by international gaming associations like RGA, EGBA and eCOGRA.
