Roulette Strategy and Breaking Common Myths

When playing roulette you may think that you are developing a strategy for this game but most likely you are just having a bit of luck. The wheel consists of thirty-seven pockets if you are playing a European wheel, and thirty-eight pockets if you are playing an American wheel. Centrifugal force and the loss of momentum define this game. The wheel spins in one direction while the marble spins in the opposite direction and lands in a colored and numbered pocket. The marble is changed out every eight hours so that no pattern or wearing on the marble will affect the outcome of the spin. When this is done there can be no pattern, so if you bet on the same number once or twice or more your odds of winning will be the same.

The European wheel with its thirty-seven pockets will have a lower house edge and will prove a greater probability of winning more. The pockets on the European roulette wheel alternate between red and black and consist of thirty-six numbers and one green pocket that is a zero. The American wheel is the same basic layout but it will have a second green pocket marked double zero.

No matter where you decide to play roulette, whether it is in a land casino or an online casino, you will have a better chance of increasing you odds if you play a European game. There are many sites to choose from online that will give you this edge. Traveling to a European country to play just isn't something that everyone can do. The way that you eventually place your bets will give you the payouts, since there are no patterns in roulette that you can use to guide you.

When deciding which type of bet you want to make, you have many to choose from. The outside bet, inside bet, even money bet, dozen bet and the column bet are a few of the types you will want to become familiar with before you start to play. There are many online sites that can help you learn about each type of bet and give you the odds of each bet that you could place. You will also find help at the casinos. They usually have a roulette wheel that is used for learning how to play the game, and will post a time that you can come by and learn the game.

Even money bets will have you bet on eighteen numbers and you will place your bet in the box on the outside of the grid. It will be numbered from 1-36 and also show odd, even, black and red. The column bet will be on the three columns of numbers containing the black and red squares. You will bet on all twelve numbers in the column and you may place a bet on each different column for three different bets. You place your chip at the bottom of the column in the green squares.
